Schoustra wins pentathlon with school record on day one of MIAC Indoor Championships

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Junior Mackenzie Schoustra set a new school record in the pentathlon on her way to becoming the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) champion in the event on the first day of the 2019 MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday afternoon at Tostrud Fieldhouse.

Schoustra set personal records in four of the five events on her way to collecting 3,425 points in the pentathlon, breaking the previous record held by Dani Larson from 2012 by four points. Junior Emily Bohlig also moved up in the school record book with the eighth-best score in program history (2,882) and finished fourth, while senior Megan Grimes finished just outside of the program's top 10 in eighth place (2,795).

With the first-place finish, Schoustra earned All-MIAC honors in the pentathlon, while Bohlig received Honorable Mention All-MIAC recognition by virtue of her fourth-place showing.

Schoustra, whose score of 3,425 is the eighth-highest score in NCAA Division III this season, set PRs in the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 800-meter run. She won the high jump (1.63m), long jump (5.04m) and tied for first in the 60-meter hurdles (9.31), while finishing third in the 800-meter dash (2:29.70) and fourth in the shot put (10.17m).

Bohlig tied for third in the high jump (1.54m) and was fifth in the long jump (4.77m), fifth in the shot put (9.63m), eighth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.92) and 13th in the 800-meter run.

In her first year competing in track & field, Grimes won the shot put (10.49) on her way to finishing eighth.
