MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's tennis team was defeated, 9-0, by Bethel University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) match on Friday evening at the University of Minnesota's Baseline Tennis Center.
Bethel (6-2, 2-1 MIAC) finished strong at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to sweep the three doubles matches and won five of the six singles matches in straight sets.
Gus Fedje-Johnston won the second set of his match at No. 4 singles for St. Olaf (1-2, 1-1 MIAC), before falling in the decisive super tiebreaker in the last match on court.
After an 8-0 win for the Royals at No. 3 doubles, Bethel won the final two games at No. 2 doubles to take that match, 8-5, and pulled out the No. 1 doubles match in a tiebreaker, 7-5, to carry a commanding 3-0 lead into singles.
In singles, Fedje-Johnston provided St. Olaf with its lone set win of the evening, taking the second set, 6-4, after dropping the first set in a tiebreaker. Bethel's Nick Knudsen rebounded from losing the second set to claim the super tiebreaker, 10-1.

Ethan Bruha lost a pair of tight sets in their matches at No. 2 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Wick went down 6-4, 6-4 to Zach Kantor, while Bruha was edged, 7-5, 7-5, by Joey Mueller in his first match in the singles lineup.
St. Olaf faces Gustavus in the second of back-to-back MIAC matches on Saturday, Mar. 2 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Peter.
