OWATONNA, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's tennis team made it two wins in less than 24 hours, as the Oles swept past St. Norbert College, 9-0, in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon at Owatonna Tennis Center.
After defeating Saint Mary's University (Minn.) the night before, St. Olaf (3-4) finished off a 2-0 weekend by sweeping St. Norbert (3-6).
Gus Fedje-Johnston,
Spencer Wick,
Corey Loken and
Ethan Bruha were all victorious in both singles and doubles for the Oles.
St. Olaf won each of the three doubles matches by at least four games. In their first matches as partners this season, the pairs of Fedje-Johnston/Wick and Loken/
Christopher Prokosch recorded wins of 8-4 and 8-3 at the top-two spots, respectively.
Bruha and
Kevin Kalkus won their second match in as many days as a tandem with an 8-4 win at third doubles.
In singles, the Oles won all six of the matches in straight sets, with sophomore
Dez Young's 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles being the closest score line of the afternoon. None of the other five singles matches had a set closer than 6-3.
Loken, this week's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week, won his third-straight match by dropping just one game in each set at No. 1 singles. Wick's 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles was also his third-straight match win.
Fedje-Johnston, Bruha and
Tony Klagge were also straight-set victors for St. Olaf.
The Oles continue non-conference play on Saturday, Apr. 8 at the University of Northwestern (Minn.) at 4:30 p.m.
