SARTELL, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's tennis team was blanked, 9-0, by Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) foe Saint John's University (Minn.) on Saturday at Sta-Fit.
Saint John's (7-7, 4-2 MIAC) lost just one set in singles after claiming all three doubles matches by at least four games to defeat St. Olaf (3-5, 2-4 MIAC) and snap the Oles' two-match winning streak.
The Johnnies recorded 8-4 victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles and claimed No. 3 doubles by an 8-3 score.
Spencer Wick and
Gus Fedje-Johnston saw their two-match winning streak halted by virtue of their 8-4 defeat atop the lineup.
In singles, Wick bounced back from dropping the opening set of his match against Thomas Gillach at No. 2 singles to win the second before going down 6-4, 2-6, 10-2. Wick had won his last three singles matches.
Corey Loken also had his three-match winning streak at No. 1 singles snapped, falling 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 to Nate Jordre, who was one of five straight-set victors for Saint John's.
St. Olaf hosts crosstown rival Carleton College, the No. 38-ranked team in the country according to this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, on Wednesday, Apr. 17 at 4:15 p.m. at Carlson Courts.
