No. 38 Carleton downs men's tennis in first home outdoor match

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Crosstown rival and No. 38-ranked Carleton College was too much for the St. Olaf College men's tennis team, defeating the Oles, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon at Carlson Tennis Courts.
 
Carleton (21-2, 7-0 MIAC) remained unbeaten in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play with the victory. St. Olaf (3-6, 2-5 MIAC) was playing its first home outdoor match of the season.
 
In doubles, the closest match of the afternoon came at the top spot, where Spencer Wick/Gus Fedje-Johnston and Xander Zuczek/Leo Vithoontien were locked at 5-5 until the Carleton duo won the final three games for an 8-5 victory. The Knights won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles and 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
 
Sophomore Spencer Wick won the lone set of the afternoon in singles for the Oles, taking the first set of his No. 2 singles match with Jordon O'Kelly before O'Kelly rallied for a 0-6, 6-1, 10-4 win.
 
Senior Christopher Prokosch put seven games on the board in his No. 3 singles match with Lewis White, falling 6-3, 6-4. Sophomore Dez Young also claimed seven games in his 7-5, 6-2 defeat to Johnny Reichman at No. 6 singles.
 
St. Olaf faces Concordia College (Minn.) on Thursday, Apr. 18 at 7 p.m. at Lakeville Lifetime Fitness. The match was moved indoors due to the forecast for rain.
