WAVERLY, Iowa –
Thomas Lerdall and
Sean Lonergan of the St. Olaf College men's track and field team, as well as
Johanna Glaaser of the women's track and field team, all set personal-best times as they competed at a last chance qualifier for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.
The meet was the last chance for the trio to improve their times in their attempts to qualify for the 2019 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships next weekend in Boston, Mass. The top-20 marks/times in the country qualify in each event.
For the second meet in a row, Glaaser broke the school record in the 400-meter run, clocking in with a time of 57.94 seconds. The time was 0.12 seconds ahead of her time from last weekend's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships and moved the junior up five spots on the national list.
Lonergan competed in the one-mile run, finishing first in his heat and fifth overall with a time of 4:14.46. The time was a PR by over five seconds for the junior.
Lerdall placed second in the 5000-meter run, recording a time of 14:43.02, which was a PR by over nine seconds.
Lonergan and Lerdall's times put them in the mix for the top-25 times in the country in their respective events, with other last chance meets occurring around the country on Saturday. Glaaser's time in the 400 currently ranks 16th in the country not counting results elsewhere this weekend.
The trio will find out if they qualified for the 2019 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships tomorrow, as qualifiers are expected to be announced on
NCAA.com by 7 p.m. ET.
