Three Oles in top four of heptathlon after day one at MIAC Outdoor Championships

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Junior Mackenzie Schoustra, senior Megan Grimes and junior Emily Bohlig of the St. Olaf College women's track and field team all finished in the top four after the first day of the heptathlon, as the 2019 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships got under way on Thursday at Carleton College's Laird Stadium.

Schoustra sits atop the standings with 2,624 points through four events after winning both the 100-meter hurdles and high jump. Grimes won the shot put and was second in the 200-meter dash on her way to second place after the opening day with 2,480 points. Bohlig placed in the top six in all four events and is fourth with 2,431 points.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Schoustra won the event with a time of 16.14, eight one-hundredths of a second ahead of Jenna Degen of the College of Saint Benedict, who finished the day third in the standings. Bohlig was fourth (16.37) and Grimes was eighth (16.87).

Schoustra posted her second event win in as many events in the high jump, clearing 1.62 meters (5' 3.75") to extend her lead in the standings. Bohlig and Grimes each cleared 1.47 meters (4' 9.75") to tie for sixth in the event.

Grimes made it three event wins in a row for the Oles by winning the shot put with a throw of 11.00 meters (36' 1.25"). Schoustra (9.96m, 32' 8.25") and Bohlig (9.88m, 32' 5") finished second and fourth, respectively.

Bethel's Syri Williams claimed the 200-meter dash in 26.91 seconds, followed by Grimes in second (27.31). Bohlig and Schoustra both placed in the top half of the field in the event, with Bohlig in sixth (27.74) and Schoustra in seventh (27.87).

The second and final day of the heptathlon begins on Friday, May 3 at 12:30 p.m. at Laird Stadium. The remaining events are the long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run.
