Schoustra, Grimes and Bohlig finish 1-3-4 in heptathlon at MIAC Championships

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Junior Mackenzie Schoustra, senior Megan Grimes and junior Emily Bohlig finished 1-3-4 in the pentathlon at the 2019 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championships as the multi events concluded on Friday at Laird Stadium.

Schoustra, who also won the heptathlon at the 2019 MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships earlier this season, finished atop the standings with 4,296 points, bettering her score that already ranked fifth on St. Olaf's all-time list in the event by 200 points. Grimes was third with 4,013 points and Bohlig placed fourth with 3,957 points, as their scores rank sixth and eighth, respectively, in program history.

Schoustra's score ranks right at the cutoff, No. 22 in the country, for qualification for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, although that does not include results from other meets around the country today.

In the long jump, Grimes posted St. Olaf's top finish by coming in third with a personal-best jump of 4.92 meters (16' 1.75"). Schoustra and Bohlig were two of three competitors to jump 4.85 meters (15' 11") to finish tied for sixth. Jenna Degen of the College of Saint Benedict cut into Schoustra's lead by finishing second in the event (5.01m, 16' 5.25").

Schoustra pushed her lead back to over 200 points by placing third in the javelin throw (33.46m, 109' 9"). Bohlig took seventh (27.22m, 89' 4"), while Grimes was ninth (26.33m, 86' 4") with a new PR in the event.

In the 800-meter run, Schoustra sealed the title by placing sixth (2:36.74) and Grimes and Bohlig each moved up one spot in the standings by coming in eighth (2:38.68) and ninth (2:39.13), respectively. Grimes and Bohlig established new personal-best times in the 800, while Schoustra finished just under three seconds behind Degen to finish off the MIAC title.

St. Olaf competes at the Meet of the Unsaintly on Saturday, May 4 at Klas Field on the campus of Hamline University at 11 a.m.
