NEW ULM, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's soccer team scored six first-half goals to blank Martin Luther College, 6-0, in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon at Knight Field.
After junior
Farid Sani opened the scoring just over six minutes in, St. Olaf (2-0-0) scored five times in a little over 20 minutes later in the half to build a commanding lead. The Oles held Martin Luther (0-1-1) to just four shots in the game and one shot on goal, compared to 36 St. Olaf shots with 18 on goal.
The 6-0 win is the largest victory for the Oles since a 6-0 victory over Northwestern (Minn.) on Aug. 29, 2014.
In the seventh minute, first year
Tomas Gusmao passed the ball up the middle and through the defense to Sani, who beat the defense and sent the ball to the bottom-left corner of the net to put the Oles on the board.
Sophomore
Lucas Gaulmin scored the second goal for the Oles in the 21st minute to double the lead to 2-0.
First year
Santiago Bonifasi scored his first-career goal in the 28th minute with assists from Gaulmin and sophomore
Kieran Mullen, as the Oles increased the lead to 3-0.
Junior
Thierno Gueye took the ball through the left side of the field and found junior
Jacob Stauffer up the middle in the box to account for St. Olaf's fourth goal of the game with just under 11 minutes remaining in the first half.
The Oles got goals from senior
Keith Loukas on a penalty kick and first year
Max Eisenfeld in the final 10 minutes of the half to take a 6-0 lead heading into half time.
Junior
Hamza Osman stopped the only shot on goal he faced in the first 56:22 of the game before sophomore
Kristian Noll took over for the final 33:38. Josiah Mittelstadt had 12 saves in the loss for the Knights.
St. Olaf is back to action on Saturday, Sept. 7 with a non-conference contest against Bethany Lutheran at 1 p.m. at Rolf Mellby Field.
