ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's soccer team scored twice in the first half and defeated Hamline, 2-1, in the first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) contest of the season on Wednesday afternoon at Paterson Field.

Thierno Gueye scored his first goal of the year and first year
Max Eisenfeld added another in the first half, while St. Olaf (4-2-0) held Hamline (2-3-0) scoreless for the first 80 minutes of the contest to secure the victory.
The Oles got early chances from Gueye and sophomore
Will Douglas in the first 12 minutes, and Gueye broke the deadlock in the 29th minute with a shot from the top of the box that went to the lower left side of the goal.
Less than 12 minutes later sophomore
Lucas Gaulmin picked up his third assist of the season when he found Eisenfeld up the middle of the field, and Eisenfeld was able to convert to double the Oles lead.
In the second half, St. Olaf recorded 10 shots, including early chances from Gaulmin and Sani.
Hamline pulled a goal back after a free kick from the right wing was headed into the lower right corner of the goal with just over 10 minutes remaining in the game.
The Oles were able to hold the Pipers off for the final 10 minutes of the game to pick up the victory.
For the fifth game in a row, the Oles and the Pipers have had a one-goal game decision. St. Olaf recorded 19 shots in the game, including 10 on goal, compared to 12 shots and six shots on goal from Hamline.
St. Olaf is back to action on Saturday, Sept. 21 for a MIAC contest against Macalester beginning at 1 p.m. at Rolf Mellby Field.
