NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's soccer fell to Macalester College, 3-0, in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) contest on Saturday afternoon at Rolf Mellby Field.
Despite St. Olaf (4-3-0, 1-1-0 MIAC) and Macalester (4-2-3, 2-0-0 MIAC) each recording seven shots in the first half, Macalester scored twice in the opening 45 minutes and added another in the second half to secure the victory.
The Scots scored in the third minute of the game after a give-and-go from Floyd Krom to Chris Bajek. Bajek played the ball to Krom in the center of the box before Krom found Bajek on the right side to put Macalester on the board.
The Oles had early chances to tie the game, as juniors
Will Douglas,
Thierno Gueye and
Farid Sani each recorded a shot in the first 15 minutes of the game.
Douglas and first year
Santiago Bonifasi posted shots midway through the half, but Macalester's Mitchell Kastilahn grabbed two saves to keep St. Olaf off the board.
The Scots doubled their lead in the 32nd minute with a goal from Thomas Dono to head into the half with a 2-0 lead.
The Oles held the Scots to just four shots in the second half, while registering seven of their own, including two shots from senior
