St. Olaf had 19 kills on its way to winning the opening set and pulled away late to take it, 25-17. After leading 18-15, the Oles won six-straight points to bring up a string of set points. After the Yellowjackets saved two set points, Reid ended the set with a kill to give St. Olaf the opener.
After hitting just .083 in the first set, UW-Superior hit .345 in the second set, but St. Olaf hit .350 to edge the Yellowjackets, 25-23, and take a two-sets-to-none lead. A quick 3-0 lead for the Oles was the largest for either team until back-to-back kills from Lannom put St. Olaf on top, 22-18. UW-Superior got to within one, 24-23, before Marxer put away a kill to end the set.
St. Olaf closed out the match in straight sets by hitting an even .400 in the third, while holding UW-Superior to a .074 clip. The Oles took an early 8-1 lead after winning six points in a row on Jarnigan's serve and led by at least five points the rest of the way.
St. Olaf heads to St. Paul for the Macalester Invitational this weekend, beginning with a 7 p.m. match against Bethany Lutheran on Friday, Sept. 6. The Oles take on Knox College (12 p.m.) and UW-River Falls (2 p.m.) the following day.
