NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Senior
Noah Parker made 43 saves to surpass 1,000 for his career as the St. Olaf College men's hockey team fell, 2-1, to Concordia-Moorhead on Friday evening at St. Olaf Ice Arena.
Parker's 43 saves were one shy of his season-high total for St. Olaf (4-17-3, 2-10-3 MIAC) and moved him past Jeff Wilde '07 for sixth in program history with 1,022 for his career. Concordia (12-10-2, 9-5-1 MIAC) secured its spot in the MIAC Playoffs with the win, scoring on either side of a
Filip Dusek goal in a three-goal second period.
Concordia outshot St. Olaf, 12-7, in the opening 20 minutes, but Parker made 12 saves, including one on a Brock Montgomery breakaway, to help keep the game scoreless. Senior
Luke Ranallo had the best chance of the period for the Oles, firing just wide on a shorthanded odd-man rush with a little over six minutes remaining in the period.
The Cobbers broke the deadlock on a power-play goal by Aaron Herdt at 3:39 of the second, but the Oles replied just 20 later on a blast from the top of the right circle by Dusek. Dusek's goal was his second of the season and was set up by senior
Lucas Mutschelknaus and first year
Ashton Altmann.
Later in the second, Concordia went back on top when Eddie Eaves fired the puck in on a 3-on-2 rush at 14:18. St. Olaf nearly got its second tying goal of the period inside the final two minutes but Jacob Stephan made a blocker save to thwart senior
Will Dittrich on a 3-on-2 for the Oles.
St. Olaf again came close to tying the game three minutes into the third period when senior
Andrew Willner dropped the puck back from behind the goal to classmate
Steve MacIver in front, but MacIver's shot caromed off the pipe. Eight minutes later, senior
Roshen Jaswal nearly turned a pass from sophomore
Jared Pedersen in in front of the net but his effort was saved by Stephan.
With 7:31 remaining, the Cobbers were whistled for a five-minute major for spearing and a game misconduct, but Stephan only had one save to make on the extended power play. The Oles created two shots on goal after pulling Parker with 1:58 to go but could not muster an equalizer.
The Oles will celebrate their senior class prior to their season finale against Concordia on Saturday, Feb. 22. The ceremony will start around 1:40 p.m. with puck drop slated for 2 p.m.
