BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – First year Shea Bechtel of the nationally-ranked St. Olaf College men's soccer team was selected as the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Bechtel had three goals and one assist as No. 22 St. Olaf ran its winning streak to eight games – its longest since 1999 – with a pair of wins last week. After tallying two goals and one assist in Tuesday's 6-1 win over UW-Superior, the first year scored the 102nd-minute game-winner to give the Oles a 1-0 victory at Saint John's on Saturday. In the win over the Yellowjackets, Bechtel assisted on the Oles' opening goal before scoring the eventual game-winner in the 38th minute and added his second of the game in the 67th minute.

The Plainfield, Ill. product is St. Olaf's first MIAC Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week recipient since Kyle Leemon '18 on Sept. 25, 2017. Bechtel currently ranks second in the conference in assists (5), third in points (17), tied for third in game-winning goals (3), and tied for fifth in goals (6).

After starting the season with one goal and one assist through five games, Bechtel has recorded five goals and four assists over St. Olaf's last seven games, including scoring five times in the last five contests.

The Oles make the trip to Winona on Wednesday, Oct. 13 to face Saint Mary's University at 7 p.m.
