NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College volleyball team responded to a three-set loss the night before by sweeping visiting Concordia-Moorhead by scores of 25-18, 25-13, 26-24 on Youth Day on Saturday afternoon at Skoglund Center.
The day after dropping three tightly-contested sets to Saint Ben's, St. Olaf (11-12, 6-3 MIAC) improved its odds of securing a spot in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Playoffs by posting its fourth-straight victory in the series with Concordia (8-16, 1-8 MIAC). The Oles currently sit fourth in the congested MIAC standings with one week remaining in the regular season.
St. Olaf had three student-athletes in double figures in kills in the victory, led by first year
Madison Gully's total of 13. Senior
Katelyn Lannom tallied 12 kills out of the middle, while sophomore
Catherine Moore added 10 of her own. All three hit at least .333 in the win.
Senior
Brynne Gray logged another double-double of 22 assists and 10 digs and first year
Waverly Thao had 15 assists of her own. Junior
Selena Rodriguez recorded a match-high 18 digs to go with five assists, while classmate

Gully had six of her 13 kills in the opening set to help St. Olaf to a 25-18 set win. Trailing 11-9, the Oles won 15 of the next 20 points to bring up a long string of set points at 24-16 before Gully finished off the set with her sixth kill. St. Olaf also had four aces in the set, including two by junior
Nicole Banitt.
The Oles led all the way in set two, opening up a 10-3 lead early on with a 6-0 run that included two aces by Lannom. In her first match of the season, first year
Kathryn Deist had aces on two of the final three points of the set as St. Olaf ran away with the set, 25-13. Moore had five kills on seven errorless swings in the second set.
After there were just four ties and two lead changes over the first two sets, the third set included 13 ties and six lead changes before the Oles closed out the sweep. Both teams held early three-point leads, which were the largest leads of the set either way. With the score locked at 24-24, a kill by Moore brought up match point for St. Olaf, which finished off the win on a kill by Gully.
In their final road match of the regular season, the Oles make the long trip to Winona to face Saint Mary's on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.
