NORTHFIELD, Minn. – In a matchup of teams receiving votes in the national rankings, the St. Olaf College women's swimming and diving team was defeated by visiting Gustavus Adolphus College, 159-141, in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) dual on Saturday at Skoglund Natatorium.
St. Olaf won 10 of the 16 events in the meet but Gustavus used its depth to pick up the dual victory. For the second-straight dual meet, senior
Maya Knutson, senior
Sophia Nevin, and junior
Annika Cleven each picked up a pair of event wins and swam on the winning 200-yard medley relay.
Nevin won both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.70) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.00) for the second week in a row, with both times ranking in the top three in the MIAC this season. The senior's time in the 100-yard breaststroke is second-best in the conference, while her time in the 200-yard breaststroke is third.
Knutson claimed wins in the 100-yard freestyle (54.44) and 200-yard freestyle (1:57.28), with the latter time ranking third in the conference this season. Cleven was the first to touch in both butterfly events, winning the 100-yard competition in 1:00.51 and the 200-yard event in 2:17.60.
Along with junior
Maria Newton, Cleven, Nevin, and Knutson accounted for three legs of St. Olaf's first-place 200-yard medley relay (1:51.05).
Sophomore
Charlotte Thomson was the first to touch in the 1,000-yard freestyle for the second meet in a row, shaving nearly 10 seconds off of her time from last weekend by winning the event in 11:07.97. That time ranks third in the MIAC and was over 20 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Annika Johns of Gustavus.
Sophomore
Izzy Treanor won both sessions of the one-meter diving, including edging Emily An of Gustavus by five-hundredths of a point in the five-dive session with a score of 161.25, which is the top score in the MIAC this season. She also won the six-dive session with a score of 230.55.
