NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Visiting UW-Superior scored four times in the opening period and went on to defeat the St. Olaf College men's hockey team, 6-3, in a non-conference matchup on Saturday evening at St. Olaf Ice Arena.
UW-Superior (2-1-0) scored twice in the first 10 minutes and two more in the final minute of the opening period to take a four-goal lead after 20 minutes. St. Olaf (1-2-1) scored three of the game's next four goals to get within two with over four minutes remaining, but the Yellowjackets added a sixth goal with 1:29 to go to seal the victory.
Dylan Johnson and Chad Lopez had two goals and one assist apiece for UW-Superior, which received votes in this week's USCHO.com national poll. First year

Noah Heisler were on the scoresheet in the loss for St. Olaf, which outshot the visitors by a 38-28 margin.
Lopez and Johnson scored three minutes apart in the opening 10 minutes to get UW-Superior off to a quick start before C.J. Walker and Gavin Rasmussen added two more goals inside the final minute of the first period.
Walsh got the Oles on the board with his first collegiate goal at 6:42 of the second period, creating a turnover in neutral ice before firing a short-angle shot from the right side that UW-Superior netminder Landon Pavlisin got a piece off but could not keep out. The Yellowjackets answered a little over two minutes later on Johnson's second goal of the night to lead 5-1 after two.
In the third, Casey got his second goal of the year at 11:08 as he fired in a rebound from between the circles after Pavlisin made a save on a short-angle shot by first year
Tyler Cooper. First year Ben Luskco earned his first collegiate point with an assist on the goal as well.
With St. Olaf down by three approaching the final five minutes, UW-Superior took a tripping penalty at 14:37 and the Oles pulled their goalie to create a 6-on-4 advantage. The move paid off as Heisler scored on a one-timer from the top of the right circle for his first-career goal off of assists from junior
Ashton Altmann and sophomore
Brendan Darby.
Lopez capped the scoring three minutes later with his second goal and third point of the game. Pavlisin earned the victory for the Yellowjackets, making 27 of his 35 saves over the first two periods.
St. Olaf opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play at conference newcomer St. Scholastica on Friday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. before welcoming the Saints to St. Olaf Ice Arena for a 5 p.m. puck drop the following day.
