OWATONNA, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's tennis team posted five straight-set singles victories on its way to a 7-2 win over Hamline University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play on Saturday afternoon at West Hills Tennis and Fitness Center.
St. Olaf (2-2, 2-2 MIAC) carried a slender 2-1 advantage after doubles but pulled away quickly in singles to even its record on the season.
Michael Yousef and
Ethan Bruha each picked up wins in singles and doubles for the Oles, who picked up their fourth-straight victory in the series.
Yousef and
Dez Young improved to 3-0 on the season with an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Bruha and
Tim Roback posted an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles to give St. Olaf a 2-0 lead. Hamline avoided a doubles sweep by winning a tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles to make it 2-1 heading into singles.
Yousef and Bruha each surrendered just one game in their wins at No. 2 and No. 5 singles, respectively, before
Henry Smith wrapped up the team win with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 3 doubles.
Tony Klagge and
Spencer Wick also provided straight-set singles victories for St. Olaf.
The Oles play their second of back-to-back matches this weekend when they travel to Virginia, Minn. to face the College of St. Scholastica in a non-conference match on Sunday, March 28 at 2:30 p.m.
