NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's tennis team picked up a 7-2 non-conference victory over visiting UW-Superior on Saturday at Carlson Courts.
St. Olaf (5-6) got off to a strong start with a doubles sweep and went on to claim four singles matches to end a three-match winning streak for UW-Superior (7-4).
Spencer Wick,
Ethan Bruha,
Dez Young, and
Tony Klagge were each victorious in both singles and doubles for the Oles.
In doubles, Young and
Henry Smith put the first point on the board with an 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles. Wick and
Michael Yousef followed that up with an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles for their fourth-straight victory as partners. Bruha and Klagge completed the sweep with an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles.
Klagge did not drop a game in his match at No. 6 singles and Bruha dropped just two in his victory at No. 4 singles to give St. Olaf the five points needed to secure the win. Wick earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles for his third victory in a row before Young posted a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at No. 5 singles.
UW-Superior won the final two singles matches on court, getting a super tiebreaker win at No. 2 singles and a straight-set victory at No. 3 singles to claim its two points on the afternoon.
St. Olaf closes out its season by hosting Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday, May 1 at 1:30 p.m.
