Salfer finishes fifth in MIAC Heptathlon

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Sophomore Rebekah Salfer used personal-best performances in the javelin throw and 800-meter run to finish fifth in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Heptathlon, which wrapped up on Friday afternoon at Carleton College's Laird Stadium.

Salfer's best finish of day two came in the final event, as she placed third in the 800-meter run (2:33.32). That finish came after Salfer was sixth in the long jump (4.71m) and ninth in the javelin throw (24.63m) earlier in the day.

The javelin throw was also a PR for Salfer, who recorded personal-best showings in four of the heptathlon's seven events over the two-day competition. Salfer's score of 3,846 points was good for fifth in the field of 11 competitors and ties the sophomore for 10th on the program's all-time list in the event.

St. Olaf hosts the Ole Open on Saturday, May 11 at 11 a.m. in its final preparation for the MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held May 14-15 at Hamline University.
 
DAY ONE RECAP

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Sophomore Rebekah Salfer sits in third place after day one of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Heptathlon after the first four events were contested on Thursday afternoon at Carleton College's Laird Stadium.

Salfer used top-five finishes in the 100-meter hurdles, shot put, and 200-meter dash to accumulate 2,337 points to finish the day third in the field of 11 competitors. Peyton Selle of Concordia-Moorhead leads the way with 2,559 points and is followed by Bailey Joens of Saint Mary's with 2,451 points.

In the first event of the day, Salfer established a new PR in the 100-meter hurdles by finishing in 16.07 seconds, which was good for fifth. She proceeded to tie for eighth in the high jump (1.35m) and take fourth in the shot put (9.49m) before closing out the day with a personal-best time of 27.45 seconds in the 200-meter dash.

Day two of the heptathlon will begin on at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 7 and includes the long jump, javelin throw, and 800-meter run.
