NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Sophomore
Casey McCloskey scored the game-winning goal in the 96th minute as the regionally-ranked St. Olaf College men's soccer team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat visiting Macalester College, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at Rolf Mellby Field.
Macalester (4-5-0, 1-2-0 MIAC) raced out to an early 2-0 lead inside the first 15 minutes of the game before St. Olaf (6-1-1, 3-0-0 MIAC) fought back with goals late in the first half and early in the second half to send the game to overtime. Less than six minutes into the extra session, McCloskey won it for the Oles with his team-leading sixth goal of the season to cap the come-from-behind win.
Thomas Dono and Joey Stern scored in the span of 2:19 in the game's first 15 minutes to give the Scots an early two-goal advantage. Dono's goal came in the 12th minute off a cross from Hans Haenicke and Stern made it 2-0 shortly thereafter after his shot from the top of the box following a corner kick deflected in in front.
