NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The No. 4-seeded St. Olaf College women's soccer team hosts No. 5-seeded Saint Mary's University (Minn.) in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Women's Soccer Playoffs on Tuesday afternoon at Rolf Mellby Field.
St. Olaf (9-6-1, 7-3-1 MIAC) clinched its first appearance in the tournament since 2018 by matching the program record with seven conference victories during the regular season and will host Saint Mary's (11-5-2, 6-3-2 MIAC) in the quarterfinals at 2 p.m. on its home turf. The appearance is the Oles' sixth in the MIAC Playoffs since the tournament began in 2003.
Per MIAC policy, admission will be charged for all postseason games. Tickets are $10 adults and $2 for students. Children five and under are admitted for free. The St. Olaf athletic department will cover the cost for St. Olaf students who show their student ID at the ticket table.

Tuesday's other quarterfinal sees No. 6-seeded Macalester College travel to No. 3-seeded St. Catherine for a 2 p.m. kickoff. The winner of the St. Olaf-Saint Mary's quarterfinal will advance to face top-seeded Carleton College in the semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m., while the winner between the Scots and Wildcats will take on the second-seeded College of Saint Benedict at the same time.
In its first season under head coach
Becky Maines, St. Olaf qualified for the six-team tournament for the first time since back-to-back appearances in 2017 and 2018. The Oles also appeared in the tournament in 2004, 2012, and 2013 and are looking for their first-ever victory in the tournament. The home playoff game will be the third in program history for St. Olaf, which also hosted in 2012 and 2017.
Despite losing its regular-season finale on Saturday by a 2-1 margin to St. Kate's, St. Olaf enters the postseason with five wins in its last six games and six in its last eight. In conference play, the Oles rank tied for third in the conference in scoring offense (1.55) and scoring defense (0.82) this season. St. Olaf has also earned the most corner kicks of any team in the conference in MIAC contests with 69.
Sophomore
Sadie Klassen and senior
Tessa Anderson have provided most of the offense for the Oles this season and are among the top offensive threats in the conference. Klassen has 20 points on nine goals and two assists this season, while Anderson has 19 points on seven goals and five assists.
Klassen's eight goals in conference play were tied with Ali Voss of Saint Ben's for the most of any MIAC student-athlete during the regular season, while Anderson's six were tied for third with Casey MacVeagh of Carleton. Klassen also ranked third in the conference in points in MIAC games with 18, just ahead of Anderson in fourth with 16. First year

Defensively, the Oles allowed just nine goals in 11 regular-season MIAC contests. First year
Katie Beaudry has played a team-high 1,440 minutes at center back this season and chipped in with two goals, while junior

Grace Sprangers split time in goal. Black is 6-4-0 with a 0.81 goals-against average and .814 save percentage, while ranking second in the conference in goals-against average in MIAC contests at 0.72.
Saint Mary's is making just its second-ever appearance in the MIAC Women's Soccer Playoffs after advancing to the semifinals last year as the No. 3 seed. The Cardinals enter the postseason on a six-game winning streak following a 3-0 loss at St. Olaf back on Oct. 12. Saint Mary's has outscored its opponents by an 11-1 margin during the winning streak and has shut out its opponent in each of its last five games.
