NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The No. 12-ranked St. Olaf College men's cross country team placed third at the NCAA Division III North Region Championships behind three all-region performances on its home course on Saturday afternoon.
Senior
Logan Bocovich, junior
Will Kelly, and sophomore
Andrew Skemp all earned all-region honors by finishing in the top 35 to lead St. Olaf to third in the 28-team field with 110 points. The Oles trailed only No. 10-ranked UW-Whitewater (73) and fourth-ranked UW-La Crosse (83) in the team standings and were nine points ahead of No. 28-ranked UW-Stout.
Competing in sub-freezing conditions, Bocovich and Kelly both earned their second consecutive all-region honors by finishing in the top six. Bocovich led St. Olaf with a fifth-place performance (24:30.7), while Kelly was just behind in sixth (24:37.3). The duo trailed a pair of runners from both UW-Whitewater and UW-La Crosse in the field of 209 runners.
In his first regional meet, Skemp made it three Oles in the top 20 by placing 19th in 25:08.8 to pick up his first all-region accolade. Lynn finished one place outside the all-region spots thanks to a 36th-place performance (25:33.9), while senior
Kevin Montresor rounded out St. Olaf's five scorers in 43rd place in 25:41.9.
With the third-place team finish and its performances during the season as a whole, St. Olaf is well-positioned to receive an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III Championships when the field is announced on Sunday afternoon. The national meet will be held on Saturday, Nov. 19 in Lansing, Mich.
