Anderson wins second in a row, Johnnies down men's tennis

OWATONNA, Minn. – Sophomore Ben Anderson picked up his second-straight win in a super tiebreaker at No. 6 singles for the St. Olaf College men's tennis team in a 7-2 loss to Saint John's University on Saturday evening at West Hills Tennis and Fitness Center.

Anderson won his super tiebreaker against Daniel Perez by a 10-7 score to give St. Olaf (1-3, 1-2 MIAC) its lone singles victory of the match. Sophomore Max Loesch and junior Henry Smith added a win in a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles for the Oles, but Saint John's (7-2, 4-0 MIAC) stayed unbeaten in conference play with the victory.

The Johnnies took a 2-0 lead in doubles with an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles and an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles before Loesch and Smith claimed their match in a tiebreaker, 7-4, to give the Oles a point heading into singles. The win was Smith and Loesch's second in a row as a pair.

In singles, Saint John's posted victories at the top-five spots – all in straight sets – to secure the team win before Anderson won the lone match of the evening to go the distance. The sophomore won the first set, 6-4, before Perez came back to take the second, 6-2, to extend the match to a super tiebreaker, which Anderson took by a 10-7 margin.

St. Olaf heads to Hilton Head, S.C. for two matches over Spring Break, as the Oles take on DePauw University and Randolph College on Sunday, March 27.
