NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's tennis team was blanked, 9-0, by regionally-ranked Carleton College in a matchup of the crosstown rivals on Thursday at Pat Lamb Tennis Courts.
Carleton (11-4, 5-0 MIAC) remained undefeated in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play by sweeping the three singles matches and winning all six singles matches in straight sets to defeat St. Olaf (5-5, 3-3 MIAC). The Knights were ranked No. 11 in the Central Region in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings released earlier this month.
In doubles, the Carleton posted 8-5 victories at the top-two spots and an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles. Junior
Henry Smith and sophomore
Max Loesch saw their four-match winning streak at second doubles snapped with their 8-5 defeat.
The Knights claimed all six singles matches in straight sets to complete the 9-0 win. Seniors
Tony Klagge and
Tim Roback both saw their four-match winning streaks come to an end at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. The closest score line of the day came at No. 6 singles, where sophomore
Jakub Belik put seven games on the board in a 6-4, 6-3 loss.
St. Olaf is scheduled to host Bethel on Friday, April 22 at 4 p.m. at Carlson Courts.
