BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Junior goalkeeper
Austin Williams of the regionally-ranked St. Olaf College men's soccer team was honored as the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Williams collected the first MIAC Athlete of the Week accolade of his career after posting a four-save shutout in St. Olaf's 4-0 victory at Macalester on Saturday. The junior is the 14th Ole to earn a weekly award from the conference since 1999.
Williams stopped all four shots he faced in Saturday's win over the Scots in St. Paul to record his second-straight shutout. The Cottage Grove product made three of his four saves in the second half, including two in the space of less than a minute in the final seven minutes to preserve the shutout.
In six games this season, Williams is 3-2-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average and a .762 save percentage, with the 1.00 goals-against average ranking fourth in the MIAC.
St. Olaf hosts the College of St. Scholastica at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28 looking for its 14th-straight conference regular-season win.
