MOORHEAD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's hockey team got out to an early lead, but Concordia-Moorhead scored four unanswered goals over the first two periods to claim a 5-2 victory in the series opener between the two teams on Friday night at Moorhead Sports Center.

Noah Heisler gave St. Olaf (11-8-1, 5-6-0 MIAC) an early lead less than three minutes into the game, but Concordia (8-9-1, 5-4-0 MIAC) scored twice in the second half of the first period and twice more late in the second to build a 4-1 lead. Despite the loss, the Oles remain in fourth place in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) standings with 16 points but are just one point ahead of Augsburg University and two ahead of the Cobbers.

Just 2:59 into the game, Heisler gave St. Olaf the lead with his second goal of the season off an assist from Karasek. The Cobbers responded with a goal from Bauer Barry midway through the period and a power-play goal from Joe Harguindeguy with 20 seconds to go to take a 2-1 lead at the first intermission.
Concordia-Moorhead stretched its lead to 4-1 after two periods thanks to goals from Jacen Bracko and Caden Triggs less than three minutes apart towards the end of the second period. Pointer gave St. Olaf hope of a comeback with a power-play tally at 6:12 of the third period after the Cobbers were assessed two minor penalties at the 5:45 mark, but the hosts managed to kill off the second penalty to stay ahead by two.
Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe sealed the win for the hosts at 13:19 of the third to cap the scoring. The Cobbers doubled up the Oles, 32-16, in shots on goal in the game. First year
Tyler Laureault made 27 stops in the loss for St. Olaf, while Matt Fitzgerald picked up the win with a 14-save evening for Concordia-Moorhead.
The series finale is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28 back at Moorhead Sports Center.
