NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's and women's swimming and diving teams combined to win 10 events in the non-scored Cows, Colleges, and Contentment Classic on Saturday at Northfield Middle School and Carleton College's Thorpe Pool.
The St. Olaf women had three individuals win multiple events on its way to posting nine first-place performances, while the St. Olaf men got a victory from sophomore
William Wallace in the 50-yard freestyle for their lone first-place result. No team scores were kept in the meet that included UW-La Crosse, St. Cloud State University, Carleton, and St. Olaf.
Senior
Izzy Treanor, the reigning Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Women's Diver of the Year, won both the three-meter and one-meter 11-dive sessions in her first meet of the season. Treanor's score of 447.85 points on the three-meter board was over 50 points higher than the second-place finisher, while her score of 418.20 on the one-meter board won the event by over 20 points. Hannah Richey posted the top score in the six-dive session on the one-meter board (155.80).
Sophomore
Paige Steenblock and first year
Alana Schmitzer added two first-place finishes each for the Oles. Schmitzer swept the two breaststroke events, winning the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:10.80 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:35.70. Steenblock was the first to touch the wall in the 200-yard butterfly (2:18.44) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:48.05).
First year
Samantha Sylvester was the top finisher in the 200-yard backstroke (2:16.63) and was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.17) for one of three second-place finishes for the Ole women.
On the men's side, Wallace sprinted to a win in the 50-yard freestyle (22.33) to lead the way for St. Olaf, which picked up five second-place results in the meet. Senior
Marcus Hauck was second in both the 100-yard backstroke (54.34) and 200-yard backstroke (2:06.33), while sophomore
Aiden Yung took second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:19.33) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:27.45).
In their first of back-to-back home MIAC duals, St. Olaf welcomes the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University for 1 p.m. dual meets on Saturday, Nov. 4.
