It will also be just the second time a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) program has played for a national championship in men's soccer, as Gustavus Adolphus College reached the title game in 2005 but fell, 1-0, to Messiah University (Pa.).
In addition to Sunday's game being the first-ever meeting between the two programs, St. Olaf has never previously faced a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) foe. The Oles, who are riding a program-record 21-game unbeaten streak (18-0-3), are trying to become the Western-most program to win the NCAA Division III men's soccer national title since Trinity University (Texas) in 2003.
