ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's swimming and diving team was second and the women's team was fourth at the Roger Ahlman Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Riley Pool on the campus of Macalester College.
On the men's side, St. Olaf got first-place finishes from four different swimmers to place second in the four-team standings with 677.5 points. Sophomore
Paige Steenblock added a victory in the 400-yard individual medley for the Ole women, who were fourth in the nine-team standings with 536 points.
Sophomore
William Wallace had three top-two individual swims for St. Olaf, winning the 50-yard freestyle (21.57) and placing second in both the 100-yard butterfly (52.51) and the 100-yard freestyle (47.28). Wallace led a 1-3-4 finish for the Oles in the 100-yard butterfly, as senior
Daniel Bloedow was second (53.48) and senior
Marcus Hauck tied for fourth (54.32).
Bloedow and Hauck also added first-place finishes of their own, with Hauck winning the 100-yard backstroke (52.94) by over two seconds and Bloedow winning the 200-yard butterfly (1:59.70). Hauck was also the runner-up in the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.47).
Sophomore
Aiden Yung posted the other individual event win for St. Olaf in the 400-yard individual medley (4:19.75) and logged third-place finishes in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.18) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.18). Hauck, Yung, Bloedow, and Wallace also made up the Oles' first-place 200-yard medley relay (1:38.00), while Yung, Bloedow, and Hauck were joined by senior
Jaden Chant on the runner-up 800-yard freestyle relay (7:24.02).
Steenblock led the way for the St. Olaf women with three top-three swims, as the sophomore was the first to touch in the 400-yard individual medley (4:37.27), was the runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.79), and was third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.44). First year
Samantha Sylvester registered a third-place performance in the 100-yard backstroke (59.62) and was part of three of St. Olaf's four third-place relays.
While the swimmers competed in St. Paul, the St. Olaf divers were in action at the Rochester Invite, where senior
Izzy Treanor won the one-meter diving by just over two points with a score of 399.00.
The Oles' next competition is a MIAC dual at Hamline University on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 11 a.m.
