Men's soccer earns first No. 1 ranking following national title

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After winning its first national title, the St. Olaf College men's soccer team earned its first No. 1 ranking in program history in the final United Soccer Coaches Top 25 of the season, as released on Tuesday.

After entering the NCAA Tournament ranked No. 11, St. Olaf (20-3-3) won six-straight games, including four against nationally-ranked teams, to win the national championship and ascend to the top spot in the year-end poll. Prior to Tuesday's balloting, the Oles' highest-ever ranking was No. 3, which was accomplished in four consecutive weeks during the 1999 season.

The No. 1 ranking made head coach Justin Oliver's team the second of St. Olaf's NCAA varsity sports to earn a No. 1 ranking, joining men's cross country, which was ranked No. 1 by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) year-end poll following its 2013 national championship, was well as the first two polls of 2014.

St. Olaf's 20 victories this season established a new program record, breaking the mark of 19 set by the 2021 team that finished 19-3-1, and were tied for the highest total in the country this season with Messiah University. The Oles finished the season on a program-record 22-game unbeaten streak after going 19-0-3 following a 1-3-0 start to the season.
