ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's and women's swimming and diving teams eased to their first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) dual victories of the season against shorthanded Hamline University on Saturday at Bush Center Pool.
On the men's side, St. Olaf won 13 of the 14 contested events to pick up a 134-26 victory, while the Ole women won 13-of-15 events to claim a 159-46 win over the Pipers. With both Hamline teams having roster sizes in the single digits, each of the events featured fewer entries than a normal dual meet.
Senior
Oscar Hanifl swept the two diving events with nearly identical scores on both boards, earning 227.25 points on the one-meter board and 227.05 points on the three-meter board. Hanifl was one of four Oles to win two individual events in the men's meet and also swam on winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1:36.91).
Senior
Jaden Chant finished first in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.95) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:26.97), junior
Avery Nevins won the 100-yard backstroke (58.46) and 200-yard backstroke (2:21.89), and sophomore
Nick Starcevich was the first to touch in the 50-yard freestyle (22.92) and 100-yard freestyle (51.45). Starcevich and Nevins were also members of a winning relay, while senior
Daniel Bloedow, sophomore
Beau Giddings, and sophomore
Aiden Yung also won individual events.
Senior
Izzy Treanor matched Hanifl by winning both boards of the women's diving events, posting scores of 238.60 on the one-meter board and 234.30 on the three-meter board. First year
Samantha Sylvester was the lone other Ole to win multiple individual events, claiming the 100-yard freestyle (55.91) and 200-yard individual medley (2:17.43).
Sophomore
Rowan Krueger-Barth placed first in the 50-yard freestyle (26.78) and swam on both of St. Olaf's first-place relays, while senior
Rachel Stumpf and sophomore
Rachael Olson won individual events and swam on a winning relay. Stumpf won the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:34.63), while Olson took first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:19.60).
The Oles visit Macalester College for their next MIAC duals on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 11 a.m.
