FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The St. Olaf College men's hockey suffered a 4-0 loss to Marian University to close out its opening weekend on Saturday at Blue Line Family Ice Center.
Marian (2-0-0) scored once in each of the first two periods and twice more in the third to blank St. Olaf (0-2-0) and snap the Oles' three-game winning streak in the series between the two non-conference foes. The Sabres got points from nine different skaters in the win.
Caden Carlson grabbed the lone goal of the opening period for Marian at 7:40 to put the hosts up by one at the first intermission. Nolan Flint doubled the Sabres' lead at 14:08 of the second before Brandon Modde and Quinn Mulder tallied third-period goals to close out the scoring. Mulder's goal was an empty-netter inside the final four minutes with the Oles facing a three-goal deficit.
The two teams went a combined 0-for-9 on the power play in the game. Marian held a 35-27 advantage in shots on goal in the game and got a 27-save shutout from Andreai Proctor-Ramirez between the pipes. First year
Matthew Malin made 31 saves in his collegiate debut for St. Olaf.
The Oles will be on the road twice again next weekend, starting with a trip to UW-Eau Claire for a 7 p.m. puck drop on Friday, Nov. 8 at Hobbs Ice Arena.
