Call and Kroschel win events for Oles at UW-Stout Quad

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The St. Olaf College men's and women's track and field teams compiled 13 top-five performances at the UW-Stout Quad on Friday evening at UW-Stout's Sports and Fitness Center.

Seniors Karla Kroschel and Sophie Call posted St. Olaf's two first-place finishes at the meet, with Kroschel winning the 200-meter dash and Call winning the one-mile run. The unscored quadrangular also included UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stout, and Bethel University.

Kroschel sprinted to a season-best time of 26.20 seconds to win the 200-meter dash by over two-tenths of a second, rising from fourth to second on St. Olaf's all-time list in the event. The senior's time trails only the school record of 8.16 seconds established by Abby Stets '18 in 2017 and ranks third in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) this season. Kroschel also ran the third-fastest time in the prelims of the 60-meter dash (8.16) before scratching in the final.

Call led the field in the one-mile run with a winning time of 5:15.84, finishing over four seconds in front of the second-place runner. The time broke the senior's previous personal-best time of 5:17.31 done on two occasions in 2022. First year Siri Erickson joined Call in the top three in the event in third with a personal-best time of 5:20.80.

First year Mara Larson registered a personal-best clearance in the high jump, getting over 1.54 meters (5' ½") on her third and final attempt before going out on 1.59 meters (5' 2 ½"). Larson placed third in the event with one fewer miss than Alyssa Draheim of UW-Eau Claire.

Senior Ainslee Parker added a fourth-place result in the long jump (4.73m, 5' 6 ¼"), while classmate Peyton Irsfeld moved up from seventh to a tie for sixth on St. Olaf's all-time list with a throw of 13.56 meters (44' 6") in the weight throw.

Sophomores Cullen Moore and Jack Deaver recorded the highest individual finishes of the day for the St. Olaf men with third-place performances in the 800-meter run (1:57.09) and 5,000-meter run (15:07.62), respectively, with both times representing collegiate-best times. Sophomore Gael Manzur Strandlund and senior David Lynn were the next two finishers after Deaver in the 5,000-meter run, crossing the line on 15:09.79 and 15:17.41, respectively.

Senior Henry Fisher and first year Max Albertson were separated by just five-hundredths of a second in the 400-meter dash in fourth and fifth with times of 52.09 and 52.14, while senior Demetri Lord clocked in with the fourth-fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles (8.55).

Albertson, Fisher, Moore, and senior Gabe Estrada made up St. Olaf's second-place 4x400-meter relay that posted a time of 3:29.59, while senior Ian Curtis ran the fifth-fastest time in the MIAC in the one-mile run (4:19.21).

The St. Olaf men have members competing at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University and the Maverick Premier Meet #2 at Minnesota State University on Saturday, Feb. 10. The women have a contingent of runners in the 3,000-meter run at Carleton College's Meet of the Hearts, while Jore competes in the long jump in Mankato.
