Oscar Hanifl and sophomore
Paige Steenblock won individual conference titles for the St. Olaf College men's and women's swimming and diving teams on day three of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championships on Friday at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
Hanifl won the men's one-meter diving and Steenblock was first in the women's 400-yard individual medley in an evening session that saw the Oles register five All-MIAC performances and seven Honorable Mention All-MIAC showings. The St. Olaf men wrapped up the day in fourth place with 330 points, while the women were fifth with 323 points, trailing fourth-place Carleton College by three-and-a-half point.
After posting the second-highest score in the prelims (419.70) to qualify for the final, Hanifl raised his score by nearly 50 points in the finals to win the one-meter diving by nearly 13 points with a score of 470.05. The MIAC title was the first of the senior's career and made Hanifl the first Ole to win the event since Scott Hodgson in 2015.
Steenblock became St. Olaf's first MIAC champion in the women's 400-yard individual medley since Helen Jensen in 2018 and claimed the first individual conference title of her career with a time of 4:36.48. After finishing as the runner-up in the event as a first year last season, Steenblock finished nearly six seconds ahead of J Dombroski of St. Catherine University to earn her second All-MIAC accolade of the meet.
St. Olaf compiled three other All-MIAC swims on the day, including a third-place finish in the men's 200-yard freestyle relay from sophomore

Nick Starcevich, senior
Marcus Hauck, and senior
Jaden Chant. The quartet shaved nearly six seconds off their seed time, which ranked fifth entering the meet, to grab the final all-conference accolade in the event.
Senior
Tatum Hauck secured an all-conference finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a third-place finish in 1:56.23, improving on her fourth-place honorable-mention result in the event from last season. First year
Alana Schmitzer broke through with her first individual All-MIAC accolade by taking third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.90.
On the men's side, St. Olaf had honorable-mention performances from sophomore
Aiden Yung in the 400-yard individual medley (4th, 4:13.74), Starcevich in the 100-yard breaststroke (5th, 57.35), Hauck in the 100-yard backstroke (5th, 52.58), Wallace in the 100-yard butterfly (6th, 51.78), and first year
Wyatt Gabrielson in the one-meter diving (6th, 396.05). Hauck's fifth-place showing in the 100-yard backstroke marked his third consecutive top-six finish in the event.

Charlotte Thomson and junior
Ellen Varley added fourth-place honorable-mention swims for the Ole women, with Thomson doing so in the 400-yard individual medley (4:42.37) and Varley in the 100-yard butterfly (59.49).
The conference meet concludes on Saturday, Feb. 17 with a prelims session at 10:30 a.m. and a finals session at 6:30 p.m.
