NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's track and field team was fifth in the team standings after compiling three all-conference performances on the first full day of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at Tostrud Center.
St. Olaf got top-three finishes from sophomore
Ashlyn Jore in the long jump, first year
Mara Larson in the high jump, and its distance medley relay of sophomore
Grace Moeller, junior
Emma Storbakken, senior
Sophie Call, and senior
Bella Call to conclude the day in fifth place out of 11 teams. The Oles' 54 points put St. Olaf just four points behind third-place Carleton College and 10 behind the second-place College of Saint Benedict.
Jore posted St. Olaf's top individual finish of the day with a runner-up showing in the long jump (5.40m, 17' 8 ¾"), although her eight points were not factored into the team scores at the end of the day due to a transcription error in the event that was being reviewed. The sophomore took the lead by one centimeter with a jump of 5.34 meters (17' 6 ¼") in the fifth round before Megan Geraets recorded the eventual winning jump of 5.62 meters (18' 5 ¼") on the next attempt.
Competing in her first MIAC Championships like Jore, Larson placed third in the high jump by clearing 1.57 meters (5' 1 ¾") on her first attempt before going out on 1.60 meters (5' 3"). Moeller, Storbakken, and the Call sisters closed out the night for the Oles with a second-place performance in the DMR in 12:33.49, which ranks eighth on St. Olaf's all-time list.
St. Olaf also registered seven Honorable Mention All-MIAC showings on the track on Friday. Senior
Karla Kroschel ran to a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter run in 59.77 seconds, which ranks ninth on St. Olaf's indoor list. The Calls and Moeller swept the honorable-mention positions in the one-mile run, with Bella Cal fourth (5:09.96),
Sophie Call fifth (5:11.48), and Moeller sixth (5:15.43).
Sophomores
Lauren Walda and
Isabel Wyatt added fifth-place finishes in the 5,000-meter run (17:30.91) and 800-meter run (2:20.69), while senior
Riki Poore took sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.42). Poore's time of 9.38 seconds in the prelims ranks sixth in program history.
Three other Oles produced results that landed on St. Olaf's all-time list as well. Kroschel clocked in at 8.08 seconds in the 60-meter dash to better her second-best standing in program history, while senior
Ququ Holman broke onto the list in eighth with a time of 8.27 seconds. Senior
Peyton Irsfeld rose to fourth on St. Olaf's weight throw list with a toss of 13.88 meters (45' 6 ½").
The MIAC Indoor Championships conclude on Saturday, Feb. 24 with field events starting at 11 a.m. and track events at 1 p.m.
