LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The St. Olaf College women's Nordic skiing team finished off its third consecutive U.S. Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) overall team title with a second-place finish in the team sprint on Saturday at Mt. Van Hoevenberg.
After winning the 7.5K Freestyle, Classic Sprint, and 15K Classic earlier in the week, St. Olaf was second to Paul Smith's College in the team sprint with a time of 10:42 to cement the overall title. The Oles trailed the Bobcats by just two seconds in the team relay.
Due to windy conditions, the team relay was scored as an accumulation of teams' designated three competitors in a short uphill climb called the "Uphill Challenge." St. Olaf's three times in the adjusted relay were from junior
Lily Hubanks (3:25), first year
Amae Kam-Magruder (3:35), and senior
Julia Everest (3:42), while first year
Ava Rothe was fifth individually (3:31) on the day.
Over the four events, St. Olaf registered a team score of 58 points to finish 46 points clear of the University of Wisconsin in the team standings. In the overall individual standings, Hubanks and Kam-Magruder finished in a tie for second, with Hubanks coming in second ahead of Kam-Magruder on the FIS tiebreaker. Everest was ninth overall, followed by sophomore
Grace Chandler in a tie for 26th, sophomore
Hjelle Personius in 35th, and Rothe in 43rd.
The St. Olaf men's team was seventh in the altered relay with a time of 8:53 from sophomore
