NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Six members of the St. Olaf College women's track and field team finished off their seasons by competing in the heptathlon at the St. Olaf Last Chance Multis on Wednesday and Thursday at Manitou Track.
Fifth-year senior
Rebekah Salfer, senior
Ruth Pfeiffer, senior
Riki Poore, first year

Karla Kroschel made up six of the nine competitors in the field at the meet, which was the final attempt for competitors to post qualifying scores for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Pfeiffer, Poore, Holman, and Kroschel entered the heptathlon to form a field large enough for the meet to count towards the qualification process.
In the final competition of her career, Salfer posted St. Olaf's top score of the two-day, seven-event competition with 3,872 points. The fifth-year senior was first in both the shot put (10.29m, 33' 9 ¼") and the javelin throw (28.79m, 94' 5"), while finishing second in the 100-meter hurdles (15.92) and third in the 200-meter dash (27.09).
In her first collegiate heptathlon, Pfeiffer was third with 3,594 points while competing in four of the seven events for the first time in her career. She posted the top jump of the competition in the long jump (4.89m, 16' ½") and was second in the 800-meter run (2:31.44) on Thursday.
Poore completed her first collegiate heptathlon in fourth place with 3,538 points, highlighted by third-place results in the 100-meter hurdles (16.14), long jump (4.80m, 15' 9"), and the 800-meter run (2:33.27). The senior posted personal-best times or marks in five of the seven events, including in her first appearance in the javelin throw and 800-meter run.
Klein recorded personal-best performances in the 100-meter hurdles (18.20), high jump (1.33m, 4' 4 ¼"), and the javelin throw (19.76m, 64' 10") on the way to a fifth-place finish with 3,179 points. The first year's third-place throw in the javelin was a PR by nearly five feet. Holman and Kroschel also completed their first collegiate heptathlons with 3,063 and 3,023 points, respectively.
