Brochman resigns as head Nordic skiing coach

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - After a combined 13 seasons as the head men's and women's Nordic skiing coach at St. Olaf, Kevin Brochman has stepped down, as announced by Deputy Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator Kelly Mahlum on Tuesday.

Brochman served as St. Olaf's head coach from 2003-07 and returned to the Hill prior to the 2015-16 season. In his second stint leading the two programs, Brochman led the Oles to top-six team finishes in both genders at the U.S. Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championships in each of the eight seasons that the event was held, including guiding the St. Olaf women to four USCSA combined team national titles (2018, 2022-24).

"I would like to thank Kevin for everything he did for our Nordic skiing programs during his time on the Hill," Mahlum said. "His teams' many accomplishments on the national level speak for themselves. We will miss his enthusiasm and dedication to the sport and wish him nothing but the best."

Since 2015-16, Brochman's women's teams have finished in the top four in the combined standings at the USCSA National Championships every season, with two runner-up finishes, a third-place finish, and a fourth-place finish, in addition to the four first-place finishes. The St. Olaf women have won 16 of the 30 team titles over that stretch, while accounting for 64 All-America performances and nine individual national titles.

Over that same period, the St. Olaf men recorded a pair of runner-up finishes in the team combined standings, doing so in 2017-18 and 2019-20. The Oles won team event titles in each of those seasons, winning the Freestyle Sprint Relay in 2017-18 and the 7.5K Freestyle in 2019-20. Under Brochman's direction, the St. Olaf men's program produced 29 All-America performances and two individual national titles since 2015-16.

In tandem with the St. Olaf men's and women's alpine skiing teams, the Oles finished in the top three in the USCSA President's Award standings in both genders in of the last seven seasons of the competition, including winning the women's President's Award five times (2016-17, 2017-18, 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24) and the men's President's Award once (2017-18).

A national search to fill the position will begin immediately.
