DECORAH, Iowa – The St. Olaf College women's soccer team had four different goalscorers and posted its third shutout in four games to start the season in a 4-0 road victory over Luther College on Saturday afternoon at Luther College Soccer Field.
Sophomore
Emily Johnson, junior
Cat Duffy-Shaw, and senior
Sadie Klassen all scored in the first half for St. Olaf (3-0-1), which also got a second-half goal from junior
Katie Beaudry. With the shutout of Luther (0-4-0), the Oles have outscored their opponents by a 7-1 margin in their four-game unbeaten start to the season.
Johnson and Duffy-Shaw both found the back of the net inside the first 20 minutes to get St. Olaf out to an early two-goal cushion. In the 13th minute, Johnson cut infield from the left before firing a left-footed shot from the top of the box into the top-left corner of the net for her second goal of the season. Duffy-Shaw made it 2-0 less than seven minutes later by unleashing a shot from 30 yards out the flew into the top-left corner for the third goal of her career, with senior
Katie Sewell earning an assist on the goal.
Klassen, who led St. Olaf with 10 goals in 2022 before missing all of the 2023 season due to injury, capped St. Olaf's three-goal first half with a left-footed strike from left of the penalty spot in the 37th for her first goal of the season. Beaudry capped the scoring by turning in a Duffy-Shaw corner in front in the 64th minute for the fourth goal of the defender's career.
Sophomore
Clara Luger had just one save to make over the first 75:48 before making way for senior
Kalle Munger to make her Ole debut over the final 14:12. St. Olaf outshot Luther by counts of 26-5 overall and 13-1 in shots on goal. Elsa Queoff made nine saves in the loss for the Norse.
After concluding a run of three consecutive road games, St. Olaf returns to Rolf Mellby Field to face UW-Stout on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 3:30 p.m.
