Sauvy's career day leads to MIAC Football Offensive Player of the Week award

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Junior Bryon Sauvy of the St. Olaf College football team was selected as the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Football Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career on Monday afternoon.

Sauvy earned his first MIAC Athlete of the Week accolade after rushing 17 times for 231 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's 44-41 victory over the College of St. Scholastica. The junior is St. Olaf's first MIAC Football Offensive Player of the Week this season and the program's fourth MIAC Athlete of the Week in football overall thus far.

In less than three quarters of action, Sauvy ran for a career-high 231 yards and had his second-career two-touchdown performance. He averaged 13.6 yards per carry and ran for touchdowns of 23 and five yards before exiting the game around the five-minute mark of the third quarter due to injury. Sauvy's 231 rushing yards are the fifth-highest total in recorded program history and put him well on his way to break the record of 270, while also accounting for nearly 60 percent of St. Olaf's 390 rushing yards on the day – the program's highest single-game total in at least three decades.

The Oles will play two of their remaining three games on the road, starting with a trip to St. Paul to face Macalester College on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.
