WINONA, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's tennis team moved to 4-1 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play for the first time since 2014-15 with a 9-0 victory over Saint Mary's University on Sunday afternoon at Winona Tennis Center.
St. Olaf (4-3, 4-1 MIAC) defeated Saint Mary's (7-10, 0-6 MIAC) for the seventh time in a row and matched its MIAC win total from a year ago with the 9-0 victory. The Oles lost 11 games in the three doubles matches and dropped just one set in the six singles matches.

Daniel Meunier gave St. Olaf its first doubles sweep in conference play this season. Vizoli and Smith lost just one game at the top spot while moving to 4-1 against MIAC opposition, while Vanderwerf and Meunier picked up an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles. Veldic and Birnesser won their match at No. 2 doubles in a tiebreaker, 7-2.
Vizoli, Veldic, Smith, Vanderwerf, and Birnesser all won their singles matches in straight sets for St. Olaf, while sophomore
Cathal Mee rallied from a set down at No. 5 singles to claim a 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3) win in a super tiebreaker. Vizoli and Vanderwerf both remained undefeated (5-0) in MIAC play this season with their straight-set wins, with Vanderwerf moving to 13-0 overall in singles play by dropping just two games at No. 4 singles.
The Oles will face host Wartburg College (9:30 a.m.) and Northwestern College (1:30 p.m.) in a tri-match on Saturday, March 22 at Meirink Family Tennis Facility in Waverly, Iowa.
