Men's tennis to host Concordia on Tuesday in quarterfinals of MIAC Playoffs

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The fourth-seeded St. Olaf College men's tennis team will host fifth-seeded Concordia-Moorhead in the quarterfinals of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Tennis Playoffs on Tuesday afternoon.

In what will be the program's first home match under the current playoff format (since 2007), St. Olaf will take on Concordia at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29 at Carlson Courts. The Oles secured the No. 4 seed with a 5-4 conference record during the regular season, while the Cobbers claimed the final playoff spot with a 4-5 mark after edging out the College of St. Scholastica on a tiebreaker thanks to winning the head-to-head meeting with the Saints.

Per MIAC policy, no admission will be charged for postseason tennis matches. Tuesday's quarterfinal will be live-streamed on the MIAC Sports Network and St. Olaf's Broadcast/Media Services website.

The winner of Tuesday's match will advance to take on top-seed and regular-season champion Gustavus Adolphus College in the semifinals at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 1 in St. Peter. Thursday's other semifinal will see third-seeded Bethel University visit second-seeded Carleton College in a 4 p.m. start.

St. Olaf is in the MIAC Playoffs for the second season in a row after not having appeared since 2015 prior to last season. The appearance is the 10th overall for the Oles under the current format. St. Olaf is 6-9 in its previous 15 matches in the MIAC Playoffs and is in search of its first win in the tournament since the 2014 quarterfinals. Although the Oles have been the higher seed in the playoffs under the current format, none of those matches were played on St. Olaf's campus.

Concordia is appearing in the MIAC Playoffs for just the fourth time under the current format, previously qualifying in 2007, 2011, and 2018. The Cobbers are 1-3 all-time in the tournament, with the one win coming in the quarterfinals in 2007.

Tuesday's match will be the second postseason meeting between the two programs. St. Olaf won the lone previous encounter, 6-3, in the quarterfinals in 2011 in the 4-5 match under the six-team format. During the regular season, the Oles topped the Cobbers by a 7-2 margin in its lone dual match of the fall back on Oct. 5, marking the 17th win in the last 18 meetings for St. Olaf dating back to 2008.
