NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The fourth-seeded St. Olaf College women's tennis team will host fifth-seeded St. Catherine University in the quarterfinals of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Women's Tennis Playoffs on Wednesday afternoon.
In its first home playoff match since 2016, St. Olaf will face St. Kate's at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30 at Carlson Courts. The Oles earned the No. 4 seed with a 7-3 conference record during the regular season, while the Wildcats landed the No. 5 seed with a 6-4 mark.
Per MIAC policy, no admission will be charged for postseason tennis matches. Tuesday's quarterfinal will be live-streamed on the
MIAC Sports Network and St. Olaf's
Broadcast/Media Services website.
The other quarterfinal on Wednesday will see the sixth-seeded College of St. Scholastica head to third-seeded Bethel University in a 3:30 p.m. start in Arden Hills. The highest remaining seed after the quarterfinals will meet up with second-seeded Carleton College, while the lowest remaining seed will take on regular-season champion and top-seeded Gustavus Adolphus College in the semifinals on Friday, May 2.
St. Olaf qualified for the MIAC Playoffs for the fifth time in six seasons and the 15th time under the current format implemented in 2007. The Oles are 11-14 all-time in the tournament and have advanced to at least the semifinals in nine of their previous 14 appearances, including playing for the title in 2009 and 2010. Wednesday's quarterfinal will be the fourth home playoff match for St. Olaf under the current format, with the Oles winning two of the previous three.
St. Kate's is in the MIAC Playoffs for the 13th time overall and the fourth time in the last five seasons. The Wildcats are 3-12 all-time in the tournament but have advanced to the semifinals in two of the last three seasons (2022, 2024).
The Oles and Wildcats will meet for the fifth time in the MIAC Playoffs and the first time since meeting four times from 2011-15. St. Olaf won three of the previous four postseason matches, which all came in the quarterfinals. The Oles picked up a
6-3 win in the regular-season meeting back on March 2 indoors in Owatonna.
