Rylee named Player of the Year to lead eight Oles in MIAC Softball Awards

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Senior Medora Rylee was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Player of the Year to headline eight members of the St. Olaf College softball team who were honored in the 2025 MIAC Softball Awards, as announced on Monday afternoon.

Rylee became the first Ole to be chosen as the MIAC Softball Player of the Year and was joined on the All-MIAC list by senior Amelia Christenson, sophomore Regan Zak, and junior Roxanne Ring. Junior Elle Brandt, sophomore Eva Hokanson, and fifth-year senior Jaelyn Orth were all Honorable Mention All-MIAC selections, while Zak and sophomore Rylan Nakamura represented St. Olaf on the MIAC All-Playoff Team.

Rylee was voted the MIAC Player of the Year by the conference's head coaches and, along with Christenson, earned her third consecutive All-MIAC accolade to become the seventh and eighth Oles to be at least a three-time all-conference honoree. The senior started all 22 conference games for St. Olaf, hitting .485 (32-for-66) with 14 doubles, two triples, 11 walks, 16 runs scored, and 17 RBI while compiling a .557 on-base percentage and .758 slugging percentage. Rylee led the MIAC in OPS (1.315) and doubles while tying for first in hits, ranking second in on-base percentage, third in batting average, total bases (50), and slugging percentage, tied for third in triples, fifth in walks, seventh in RBI, and tied for ninth in runs scored.

Christenson also started all 22 games for St. Olaf in MIAC play, hitting .390 (23-for-59) with seven doubles, eight runs scored, 16 RBI, and 13 walks while getting on base at a .507 clip and slugging .508. In conference play, the senior led the MIAC in walks while ranking fourth in on-base percentage, tied for fourth in doubles, 12th in OPS (1.015), tied for eighth in RBI, and 13th in batting average.

Zak enjoyed a breakout sophomore senior that led to her first All-MIAC accolade and a spot on the All-Playoff Team. In conference play, the sophomore hit .357 (25-for-70) with one double, one triple, two RBI, 18 runs scored, seven walks, and 12 stolen bases in 12 tries, ranking tied for second in the MIAC in stolen bases and runs scored. Zak also recorded a pair of outfield assists and handled her 29 chances without an error. In St. Olaf's two playoff games, she was 3-for-7 with a double, a run scored, and one stolen base.

Ring also picked up her first All-MIAC accolade after going 7-3 with a 2.23 ERA, seven complete games, and four shutouts over her 10 appearances (seven starts) against MIAC opposition. The junior held opponents to a .220 batting average in 59.2 innings of work and walked just six batters with 33 strikeouts. Within the conference, Ring ranked tied for third in shutouts, fifth in opponent batting average, tied for sixth in wins and complete games, eighth in ERA, 12th in innings pitched, and 13th in strikeouts.

Brandt, Hokanson, and Orth were all first-time honorable-mention honorees. Brandt started all 22 MIAC games at shortstop, hitting .322 (19-for-59) with five doubles, one triple, three home runs, two walks, seven runs scored, 15 Rbi, and five stolen bases. Hokanson also started all 22 games and hit .333 (24-for-72) with two doubles, one home run, four walks, 11 runs scored, 14 RBI, and two stolen bases. In 10 appearances (seven starts), Orth went 4-3 with a 3.02 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 51.0 innings of work, tossing five complete games and picking up one save.

Nakamura joined Zak on the All-Playoff Team after going 2-for-5 with a double and one RBI in St. Olaf's two games while handling all 10 of her chances at second base without an error.

The Oles made their seventh consecutive MIAC Playoff appearance and advanced to the semifinals, wrapping up the season with a 24-16 overall record. St. Olaf has won at least 20 games in all eight of its full seasons under head coach Kayla Hatting.
