Box Score WAVERLY, Iowa – The St. Olaf College women's soccer team got two goals from senior
Megan Timmerman in a 3-0 non-conference road victory over Wartburg College on Wednesday evening at Salzwedel Field.
Timmerman scored twice in the span of less than two minutes early in the second half to break a 0-0 halftime tie and propel St. Olaf (2-1-0) to the win over Wartburg (0-3-0). The three-goal triumph was the Oles' largest margin of victory over the Knights since a 4-0 win on Sept. 11, 1994 and gave St. Olaf wins over Wartburg in each of the last three seasons.
The win was also St. Olaf's 15th shutout in 23 games since the start of the last season, while the Knights were shut out for the third game in a row to open the year.
In the first half, the Oles piled up 21 shots – more than they had in the first two games of the season combined – but were unable to find a goal as the teams went into the break scoreless. Sami Webster hit the crossbar in the 30th minute for the hosts. St. Olaf's 21 shots in the half were tied for its fourth-highest total in a half in the last decade.
St. Olaf wasted little time in getting on the board in the second half, as Timmerman scored twice in the first 3:27 of the half to break the deadlock. The senior opened the scoring in the 47th minute before scoring again in the 49th minute to give the senior two goals in the span of 1:35.
Timmerman's first goal came on a first-time volley after junior
Emily Johnson crossed the ball into the box from near the end line and the ball fell to Timmerman after a deflection. The senior's second was a tap-in after a ball into the box came to Timmerman at the far post.
Sophomore
Rachel Anderson completed the scoring in the 65th minute with the first goal of her collegiate career by flicking in a corner from fifth-year senior
Mia Van der Heide.
First year
Charlotte Percy claimed a second shutout in three collegiate starts with a three-save performance in goal for the Oles, who held a 32-7 advantage in shots in the game. Tulla Jensen had 10 saves in the loss for the Knights.
St. Olaf will be back at Rolf Mellby Field to face Hope College on Saturday, Sept. 6 at noon.
