Men's basketball to host Augsburg in MIAC Playoffs on Tuesday night

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The third-seeded St. Olaf College men's basketball team will host sixth-seeded Augsburg University in the quarterfinals of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Basketball Playoffs on Tuesday evening.

St. Olaf (15-10, 11-5 MIAC) will welcome Augsburg (16-9, 9-7 MIAC) to Skoglund Center for a 7 p.m. tip-off on Tuesday with a spot in the semifinals on the line. The playoff appearance will be the first in three seasons for the Oles.

Per MIAC policy, all tickets will be sold and purchased online via HomeTown Ticketing. There will be no cash sales at any venue, but spectators may purchase tickets using a mobile device. Ticket prices are $12 for general admission (plus HTT service charge) and $3 for students with ID (plus HTT service charge). Children five and under are free. MIAC passes will be accepted.

This year, the MIAC adopted a one-year pay-per-view trial for the live streams of all team-sport playoffs on the MIAC Sports Network. Individual games will cost $10 apiece and a "championship pass" to stream the entire tournament live will be offered for $25. On-demand access to playoff games will be available after the conclusion of the NCAA Tournament.

The MIAC Sports Network Help Page provides guidance and links to help fans navigate the streaming platform. Hudl Customer Support is also available by email or 24/7 chat to assist with any issues.

Tuesday night's other quarterfinal game will see fifth-seeded Carleton College travel to fourth-seeded Concordia-Moorhead for a 7 p.m. start. The highest remaining seed will head to second-seeded Saint John's University for a 7 p.m. semifinal on Thursday, Feb. 26, while the lowest remaining seed will visit top-seeded Gustavus Adolphus College for an 8 p.m. tip-off.

Despite dropping its last three games, St. Olaf finished the regular season as part of a four-way tie for second place with an 11-5 conference record and got the No. 3 seed by virtue of the conference's tie-breaking procedures (record amongst tied teams). The playoff appearance is the 16th for the Oles (1989, 1993, 1998, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023, 2026), who are 7-13 all-time in the MIAC Playoffs. St. Olaf is one of six programs to win the tournament multiple times, doing so in 2014 and 2016.

Augsburg claimed its second consecutive playoff berth after going 9-7 in MIAC play during the regular season and is in the field for the 19th time overall (1985, 1986, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2025). The Auggies hold an 11-17 all-time record in the MIAC Playoffs and won their lone playoff title in 2018.

During the regular season, Augsburg handed St. Olaf two of its five MIAC losses by sweeping the Oles by scores of 101-77 in Northfield on Dec. 8 and 101-84 in Minneapolis on Feb. 14. The Auggies hold a five-game winning streak in the series between the programs and have won the last nine meetings at Skoglund Center since 2017.

Tuesday night's game will be the third all-time meeting between St. Olaf and Augsburg in the MIAC Playoffs, with each of the previous two encounters coming in Minneapolis in the quarterfinals. In 2019, the fourth-seeded Auggies hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to top the fifth-seeded Oles by a 67-64 margin in the quarterfinals. The following season, St. Olaf returned the favor with a 76-68 victory at Si Melby Hall.
