OWATONNA, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's tennis team was defeated, 7-0, by No. 19-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play on Saturday at West Hills Tennis and Fitness Center.
Gustavus (9-5, 4-0 MIAC) swept the three doubles matches and won five of the six singles matches in straight sets to top St. Olaf (4-5, 3-2 MIAC). The loss snapped the Oles' two-match MIAC winning streak.
The closest of the three doubles matches came at No. 3 doubles, where sophomores
Daniel Meunier and
Mason Ramirez eventually fell by a 7-5 margin. The Gusties posted 6-1 and 6-3 victories at the top-two spots, respectively.
In singles, senior
Bogdan Vizoli won the opening set at the No. 1 spot against Gage Gohl, who was ranked No. 4 in the country in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll, but Gohl rallied for a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) victory. Sophomore
Lou Smith won seven games at No. 3 singles in a 6-3, 6-4 defeat to Noah Hakim.
St. Olaf will take on Bethany Lutheran College in a non-conference match at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, March 27 back in Owatonna.
