DECATUR, Ill. – Sophomore
Madden Vanderwerf was victorious in both of his matches for the St. Olaf College men's tennis team in a 5-2 loss to Millikin University on Tuesday afternoon at Fairview Park Tennis Complex.
Vanderwerf was part of a win at No. 2 doubles and won his match at No. 4 singles for St. Olaf (6-7), but Millikin (12-4) took the doubles point and won four of the six singles matches to pick up the win.
Vanderwerf and junior
Marjan Veldic teamed up for a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles for their third consecutive win, but the Big Blue claimed a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, leaving the doubles point up to the match at No. 3 doubles. Millikin snatched the point with a 7-5 victory heading into singles.
Sophomore
Lou Smith and Vanderwerf accounted for St. Olaf's two singles points with wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Smith notched his team-leading ninth singles victory of the season with a 6-4, 6-3 win, while Vanderwerf lost just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
St. Olaf will wrap up its trip with a 5:15 p.m. match at Principia College on Thursday, April 2.
