ST. PAUL, Minn - The St. Olaf women's track and field team opened the MIAC Championships with strong relay and individual performances, and currently sits sixth after day one.
Saturday Highlights
Jena Moody and
Abby Stets each won events on Saturday to pace St. Olaf to a fifth place finish.Â
Moody won the 3,000 steeplechase by 10 seconds with her 11:16.15 effort in Saturday's final .
Joy Claypoole also scored in the event, with an eighth place mark.
Stets was victorious in the 400, winning the final in 56.96 seconds. First year Johanna Glaser ran a 59.22 in the finals to pick up a fourth place finish.
The Oles' Josephine Brekke was sixth in the 1500 and
Jamie Hoornaert fourth in the 1,500 with her 18:43.01 in the final.
Meredith Moore notched a point in the race with her eighth place run.Â
Friday Highlights
The 4x800 meter relay team of Suzie Hoops,
Lisa Fisher, Bri Paulsen, and
Jena Moody finished second to Bethel University running a time of 9:14.02.Â
Mackenzie Schoustra placed seventh in the long jump, after leaping 5.20 meters.  The Oles also got points from
Corinna Brown Ton, who tied for eighth in the pole vault.
Bryony Hawgood finished third in the 10000 meters, running a season best of 39:08.26. Â
Jamie Hoornaert was close behind, finishing sixth in 39:42.78. Â In the javelin throw,
Kelsey Weed threw 35.39 meters to place eighth in the event. Â
The Oles had multiple qualifiers from the prelims including
Abby Stets in the 400 and 200 meter dash, Johanna Glaser in the 400,
Josefine Brekke in the 1500,
Jordan Lutz in the 800 meters,
Lillie Meakim in the 400 hurdles, and Schoustra in the 100 meter hurdles.
The final day of the MIACÂ Championships takes place on Saturday, where the Oles hope to make up ground on St. Thomas, who currently leads with 39.14 points. Â The Oles' 20.14 points puts them sixth after day one.
